How do I book for a meet ?
- It is rare that anyone has to pre-book a pitch. Just turn up at the meet.
- The exceptions are the Group Easter Meet and our meets at Sykehouse Village Hall in October and for our New Year Meet. If we do have a ‘booked only’ meet this will be published in the Folk Group Newsletter and Club magazine.
Who can camp at a meet of The Ridings?
- Any full or family member of the Camping and Caravanning Club.
- A current membership card needs to be produced for everyone camping at a meet.
What facilities can I find at a site?
- We only book fields with a fresh water supply and facilities to empty chemical toilets.
- On occasions site owners might have electric hook-ups available that are payable separately. These can never be guaranteed and available on a first come, first served basis.
- Toilet and washroom facilities are normally NOT available on our sites.
How much does it cost to camp?
- Our current fee* is £10 per unit night and this is for 2 adults in a unit. This fee also includes any regular social activities such as our ceilidh and singarounds.
- Additional adults camping in a unit are charged at £2.50 per night.
- The cost for non-camping adults who attend evening social events is also £4.00.
- Non-members are welcome to accompany a member at our social gatherings
* Due to high site costs, there will be special meet fee for the August Bank Holiday weekend at Hutton-le-Hole of £12
What events take place at a weekend meet?
- The only guaranteed activity is the Saturday night ceilidh as everything is based on who turns up! (and the weather!)
- We often have impromptu coffee mornings on the field, musician get-togethers, song sessions, organised walks/strolls around the local area.
- A local hall is booked for the Saturday evening ceilidh and we usually have a live band, range of callers and a couple of spots.
- During our longer weekends we often plan more than one ceilidh dependent on numbers that are camping and the availability of a hall – these are usually mentioned in the Newsletter or on the website.
- Some evenings we gather in the hall for a mix of activities including song, craft, music, or even a game of chicken-foot (dominos for up to 12 players!)
What is an ‘American Tea’ ?
- This is an old tradition of The Ridings when we have a shared tea. Everyone brings along the quantity of savoury and dessert that would normally eat (plus a bit!) and it is pooled. The ‘extra bit’ is because everyone else’s food is always a bit more tempting!
- We provide tea and coffee whilst members do sometimes bring their own drink along.
- You will also need to bring some crockery, cutlery and a mug!
What is a ‘Mass Takeaway’ ?
- Occasionally during the year we advertise a ‘mass takeaway’. One or two people check out the local takeaways and organise a big order which is then delivered to the hall. This always includes a fish and chip option and sometimes Indian or Chinese cuisine.
Should I bring my musical instrument along ?
- Yes – whatever your level of ability we are enthusiastic about you joining other musicians either at a playaround on the field or in the band at the ceilidh. We will always try and find someone to share their music and over the years we have had such a wide range of instruments in our bands. The more the merrier!
What about social media ?
- We do have a facebook page which is a closed group – ‘Friends Of The Ridings Facebook Page’
- Ask to join the group and we will try and get you sorted. This allows for last minute communications regarding meets and the sharing of mutual interests / events.
